About Lotta

Being in motion has always brought me the utmost joy. As a high school student when I seemed overly stressed, mamma would say, turn on the music and dance. And, dance I did. I found such freedom in moving my limbs against the forces of gravity; awe at how our bodies are composed with such intricate precision that a fluid in our inner ear keeps us balanced and upright. Craig Mod, author of Things Become Other Things,  calls it …”a silent sloshing in my head, keeping the sky up and the ground down.” This fascination with the body and movement, led me to dance as a child and young adult; yoga and yoga teacher training; and eventually to the world of Pilates.

I explored Pilates a few times before it stuck. One day, I was watching my dog, Toshi, move. My knees had started hurting on our hike, but Toshi was running with what seemed like reckless abandon. I realized that his strength, balance and awareness of center were what allowed for ultimate freedom and grace. I wanted that. I wanted to hike, play, run, dance, bend to reach for things in my cabinets or on the floor with ease for years to come. I didn’t want the things that I love to do now become problematic for my body later in life.  I revisited Pilates not as a way of achieving a certain look or body, but to build  and maintain the strength necessary for a joyful life. Since pursuing Pilates my knees have never hurt again.

In my free time, I read, cook, write, listen to music, experiment with weaving Danish chairs, and most of all, try to be in the quiet cacophony of wilderness as much as possible.

“As a beginner to Pilates, I find Lotta's teaching style welcoming, supportive and hard in all the best ways. Time spent practicing with Lotta is fun, focused, potent and sacred. Each session thoughtfully builds on the last and I find myself continuously amazed by how quickly I learn new things about my body - and how quickly my body learns new things.  Lotta takes the time to understand her clients and their bodies and her classes are thoughtfully tailored to each person.  After each session with Lotta my body moves with a little more strength, a little more grace, a little less pain, and a lot more joy.”

“Lotta is an excellent Pilates instructor, with a thoughtful and encouraging approach. She cares not just about the whole body, but about the whole person. She makes you want to be the best you! And her attention to detail is clear as she includes necessary modifications for your particular needs, goals, asymmetries, injury recovery, etc. I saw improvement in my strength and alignment after just a few sessions. I highly recommend Lotta as your choice for a Pilates coach.”

“I took virtual mat Pilates classes with Lotta and felt seen and held even through a screen. Her adjustments and modifications were supportive and truly tailored to my body and my ability. I felt guided through movement in a way that left my heart open and my body stronger.”

“As a long-time runner, I wanted to resolve some chronic injuries and improve my overall strength and range of motion.  From day one, Lotta was incredibly observant about how my body moves and knowledgeable about how to address various issues. I love how Lotta understands the body as a connected system and is working holistically, even when addressing a focused issue.  I worked with Lotta remotely over Zoom and was amazed how personalized and detailed the instruction could be in this format.”
